    Gabriella FernandezMar 23, 2011 4:41 PM

    Lauren DickeyMar 23, 2011 4:41 PM

Try to remember all of your good ideas and tell us again!
I asked: If you were on the lam and had to pack up your most valuable items into one case, what would you pack and
    why?
    Mrs. Dickey

    Talishia GreenMar 23, 2011 4:41 PM

I think the Vampire is a good person because if he weren't im pretty sure the vampire would do
somthing bad to Bud and while i was reading he hasn't done anything bad to Bud yet.....

    Mason TrenamanMar 23, 2011 4:42 PM

he means people get new oppertunities and other ones close

    Johnazia AllenMar 23, 2011 4:42 PM

I think the vampire is a good person because he was just trying to help bud but bud chewed a little
bit more than he could chew so i thin he was a good person.-johnazia

    Samuel SheehanMar 23, 2011 4:43 PM

    Mason TrenamanMar 23, 2011 4:44 PM

    Lynn ReynoldsMar 23, 2011 4:49 PM

I agree with that Talishia because it can't be replaced.

    Samuel SheehanMar 23, 2011 4:49 PM

ON The lamb? It means on the road. Not on a real lamb!

    Lauren DickeyMar 23, 2011 4:50 PM

I think Mr. Lewis is a good man. He put himself at risk to help Bud- He was obviously worried about
being out late at night and he was worried about a total stranger's safety. I liked his of humor and
I noticed how her gave Bud some very important advice before he dropped him off to his "dad". Mrs.D

    Samuel SheehanMar 23, 2011 4:53 PM

    Talishia GreenMar 23, 2011 4:53 PM

    Gabriella FernandezMar 23, 2011 4:54 PM

I think Mr. Lewis is a good man. He put himself at risk to help Bud-Not-Buddy. He was obviously worried about
being out late at night and was worried about a total stranger's safety. I liked his sense of humor and
I noticed how he gave Bud some very important advice before he dropped him off to his "dad". Mrs.D

    Lynn ReynoldsMar 23, 2011 4:59 PM

Mr. Calloway explains under his breath to Bud how he is on to him and to watch his move. He realizes he has a lot of ground to cover with Mr. Calloway to earn his trust. He falls asleep to the sound of arguing of Miss Thomas and Mr. Calloway, without even turning down the sheets first.

    Lynn ReynoldsMar 23, 2011 5:01 PM

What happens in chapter 15.... What do you think about it?

    Samuel SheehanMar 23, 2011 5:01 PM

    Lauren DickeyMar 23, 2011 5:04 PM

I really liked the description on page 161 and top of 162. The last line is powerful. Bud thinks
to himself- This must be how heaven smells. What do you think heaven might smell like- or -what is
your favorite smell or memory of a smell? Mrs. D

    Johnazia AllenMar 23, 2011 5:05 PM

In the quote 'when the door close and another door open' i think that means if you make a mistake and
or you mess something up their is another chance.Because another door is wide open for you to go in
    their and start all over.

    Samuel SheehanMar 23, 2011 5:05 PM

I think it smells like your favorite book

    Samuel SheehanMar 23, 2011 5:07 PM

    Lynn ReynoldsMar 29, 2011 3:07 PM

I have several favorite smells. I love the smell of Christmas because it reminds me of my mom's house at Christmas. I love the smell of fried chicken, and fried potatoes because when we had that it meant we were having a great day. I love the smell of cakes baking because it sends a sweet aroma throughout the house...

    Lynn ReynoldsMar 29, 2011 3:26 PM

Chapters 15-16- What are some of the most interesting details of the room in which Bud sleeps? How does he feel when he is in the room? Please respond...

Also, Bud tells Miss Thomas that his spirit is "a lot stronger than it looks... most folks are really surprised by that. "Give examples of Bud's strong spirit.

    Lynn ReynoldsMar 29, 2011 3:28 PM

    Chapters 17-18 Responses---

How does Bud feel when he hears the band play? What words and phrases does he use to describe the music?

Talk about the setting... Why was life difficult for African-American musicians at the time this story takes place?

    Lynn ReynoldsMar 29, 2011 3:30 PM

    Chapter 19 Responses---
    1. What does bud mean when he says that he is carrying his momma inside him?
    2. What do you think of Herman Calloway's reaction to the news of his daughter's death?
    3. What do you learn about Bud's character from his actions and reactions in this final chapter?
    4. Does the ending of the story seem believable? Why or why not?

    Gabriella FernandezMar 29, 2011 7:24 PM

what did i miss?????? all of these ?'s are confusing

    Gabriella FernandezMar 29, 2011 7:26 PM

also, my mom want me to brag about her loving the book and not waiting for tommorow

    Gabriella FernandezMar 29, 2011 7:28 PM

    I CAN HAZ BAD GRAMMAR!!!!!!!!!!

    Lauren DickeyApr 10, 2011 10:35 PM

I thought the end of the book was believable except I kept wondering why they had not asked Bud his mother's name when they first met him.
I loved the way the author described Bud's love of the music. I have often felt myself feeling that way. He compared the music to the sound of different kinds of water splashing and falling.
I loved the name the band gave Bud. I wasn't sure he would like being called anything but Bud, but he seemed to take to it.
I liked that it ended with the sense that Bud would be safe and loved by so many. He deserved that.

    Lauren DickeyApr 10, 2011 10:49 PM

Make sure you read the afterword that starts on page 237! I found it very interesting. Please come up with 3-5 questions to ask one of your family members and be ready to share that with us on Wed. Some ideas may be: What would you consider your proudest moment? Tell me about a difficult time or experience you had to face. do you have any regrets? Did you like school? why or why not? What did you like to do for fun when you were young like me? Who was your best friend when you were 11? What was he or she like? Other?
Finally, create a sketch for an ad persuading other kids to read Bud, Not Buddy! Put in a favorite line or two or whatever you think would persuade other kids to read this book. We will work to publish them on Wed. We can display them in the intermediate halls!

    Lauren DickeyApr 10, 2011 10:54 PM

I think we see Bud's strong spirit throughout the book. He was very determined to find his dad and took some real risks to achieve that. I like that he was so determined, yet he kept his good warm heart even when others made that a challenge for him. As bad as the pencil up his nose was, it turned out to be a good thing because it set him on the road to actively seeking out his dad.
I wonder if his granddad will help him find his dad???

    Lauren DickeyApr 12, 2011 6:00 PM

We will have book club tomorrow! Try to come with some ideas! If you have not interviewed or roughed out an ad, at least try to think about who you would interview and what you might include on your ad. We will work on these tomorrow. Ms. Reynolds is also interested in packing a "case" with our unique treasures. Maybe we could share that next week. I can't wait to hear what you all have to say!
